I’m not only a college counselor….I’m a coach!

I don’t believe in high stress college admissions preparation.  Thus, I prefer to coach students throughout the process. After 40 years of college admissions guidance experience, I really know that there is a way to do this without as much angst.

The college experience can be such a great and powerful one. Choosing a place that is going to help you grow and learn for the next few years of your life (not the entirety of your life!) should really be exciting.

My Coaching Method

1. Initial Discovery and Research

  • Students complete a detailed discovery questionnaire to share:

    • Interests, objectives, and work styles.

    • Accomplishments and family goals.

  • Using this information, I guide students in researching and identifying the best-fit colleges and universities for visits and consideration.

2. Assessing Fit and Admissions Possibilities

  • Coaching sessions focus on evaluating:

    • School fit based on the student’s feedback.

    • Admissions chances using relevant statistics and data.

  • Students take the lead in:

    • Discussing reasons for applying to specific schools.

    • Using admissions data to finalize their college list confidently.

3. Application Planning and Testing Strategy

  • Together, we create a timeline to tackle:

    • Applications, portfolios, and personal statements.

    • Supplemental essays for each school.

  • Testing is addressed through a low-stress discussion to decide:

    • Whether to send test scores.

    • The necessity of retesting, if applicable.

4. Personal Branding and Strategy

  • We strategize how the student wants to present themselves as an applicant.

  • I serve as their accountability partner throughout the process.

5. Personal Statement Development

  • Sessions focus on helping students:

    • Develop their authentic voice.

    • Address essay prompts in a compelling, age-appropriate way.

  • Students leave feeling reassured that admissions professionals understand and value their genuine self-expression.

6. A Stress-Free Approach

  • My goal is to make the admissions process manageable and empowering.

  • Families and students gain knowledge to make informed and healthy decisions about the right school.

This method ensures a personalized and supportive approach to college admissions, helping students feel confident and with a sense of agency throughout the journey.
